Update, October 16: on the sidelines of the same Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Morocco was named second vice-chair of the G-24, the intergovernmental group that coordinates developing countries' positions on international monetary and financial issues. It takes up the role on November 1, 2026 and, under the group's rotation, is due to become first vice-chair in 2027 and chair in 2028.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts that Morocco's economy will grow by 4.5% in 2026, then by 4.2% in 2027. The projections appear in the October edition of its World Economic Outlook, published on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 for the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, held in Bangkok from October 12 to 18. After 4.9% in 2025 according to the same data, the pace would therefore ease slightly while staying above world growth, expected at 3.1% in 2026 and 3.4% in 2027.

On prices, the IMF expects inflation of 0.9% in 2026, then 1.4% in 2027, after 0.8% in 2025. The unemployment rate would fall from 12.2% in 2026 to 11.3% in 2027. The current account deficit, however, would widen from 2.4% of GDP in 2025 to 4.9% in 2026, before coming back to 4.1% in 2027. For comparison, the Fund expects 2026 growth of 3.8% in Algeria, 2.4% in Tunisia and 5.1% in Egypt.

For 2026, the IMF's figure sits between the two national forecasts already known. The government projects growth of 5.3% in 2026 and 4.1% in 2027, according to the framework of the 2027 budget bill presented on July 23. Bank Al-Maghrib, after its board meeting of September 22, forecasts 4.4% in 2026 then 2.9% in 2027, with inflation of 0.7% then 1.5%. For 2027, the IMF is therefore close to the government and clearly more optimistic than the central bank. Next milestone: the quarterly meeting of Bank Al-Maghrib's board, expected in December.
