Morocco's High Commission for Planning (HCP) estimates that the economy grew by 4.1% in the third quarter of 2026 compared with the same quarter of 2025, and forecasts 4.7% growth in the fourth quarter, according to its economic outlook note no. 49, published on Wednesday, October 14. The second quarter ended with growth of 4%, after 4.6% in the first. These are HCP estimates and forecasts, which the national accounts will confirm or correct.

The energy shock
According to the HCP, the outbreak of the war in Iran at the end of February 2026 pushed international energy prices to 2022 levels. The shock came through higher costs for energy and mineral inputs: in the second quarter, secondary activities (industry, construction, energy) fell by 3.9%, while farming grew by 20.9% and services by 4%.

The third quarter in figures (HCP estimates)
• Farming: +19.9%, the main support of activity.
• Services: +3.9%, driven by accommodation and food services and by non-market and financial services.
• Secondary activities: −1.9%, a smaller fall than in the second quarter; food processing, cars and electrical equipment held up better than textiles, chemicals, rubber and electronics.
• Household consumption: +4.1%; investment (gross capital formation): +6.2%; export volumes: +6.2%.
• Consumer prices: −0.3%, as lower food prices (−3.6%, including olive oil, chicken, vegetables and eggs) offset higher non-food prices (+2.4%), driven by energy.
• Bank Al-Maghrib kept its key rate at 2.25% for a sixth quarter in a row; the dirham lost 2.2% against the euro and 3.8% against the dollar; the MASI index fell 6.8%.

Compared with earlier forecasts
In its July note, the HCP estimated second-quarter growth at 4.8% and forecast 5.4% for the third (our August article); it now puts them at 4% and 4.1%. For 2026 as a whole, the government expects 4.7% (Council of Ministers of October 17) and the IMF 4.5%.
