Dates from our crescent-visibility calculation, explained below. In Morocco only the announcement by the Ministry of Habous counts.

How the date is set in Morocco

In Morocco the first day of Ramadan is not fixed in advance by calculation. It is announced by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs after the crescent moon is looked for on the evening of 29 Sha'ban. If the crescent is seen, fasting begins the next day; if not, Sha'ban runs to thirty days and Ramadan begins the day after.

Across the Kingdom the sighting involves the Habous nadirs, the delegates of Islamic Affairs and units of the Royal Armed Forces, and the statement is issued that same evening. This is why Morocco sometimes begins Ramadan a day after countries that rely on astronomical calculation.

What the calculation says for 2027

The start. The Ramadan crescent will be looked for on the evening of the 29th of Sha'ban: Saturday, February 6 or Sunday, February 7, 2027, depending on the day Sha'ban begins. On the evening of February 6 the crescent will be 2 hours old at sunset and should not be visible to the naked eye. On the evening of February 7 the crescent will be 26 hours old at sunset and should be easy to see with the naked eye. Both cases lead to the same date: Ramadan would begin on Monday, February 8, 2027.

The end. The Shawwal crescent will be looked for on the evening of Monday, March 8, 2027, the 29th of Ramadan. That evening the crescent will be 9 hours old at sunset and should not be visible to the naked eye. Ramadan would therefore run to thirty days and Shawwal would begin on Wednesday, March 10, 2027.

Our calculation: for each sighting evening we compute whether the crescent can be seen with the naked eye from seven cities across the Kingdom, from Tangier to Dakhla (Odeh's visibility criterion). Of the 45 month starts announced in Morocco since February 2023, the calculation was clear-cut 35 times and the announcement followed it 35 times out of 35; the other 10 evenings were too close to call in advance. It remains a forecast: in Morocco only the announcement by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs counts.

What changes during the month

Public office hours

In 2026 the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform set continuous hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, in public administrations, public institutions and local authorities. These hours are announced a few days before each Ramadan; the 2027 statement has not been published yet.

No clock change

Until 2026 Morocco left GMT+1 and went back to GMT for the duration of Ramadan (on Sunday, February 15 in 2026). Since September 20, 2026 the country has been on GMT all year (decree no. 2.26.530), so unless a new decision is taken there will be no clock change at the start or the end of Ramadan 2027. Zakat al-Fitr

Zakat al-Fitr, the alms due before the Eid prayer, is set each year by the Supreme Council of Ulema: 25 dirhams per person in 2026. The 2027 amount will be announced during Ramadan.

Fasting times 2027: Fajr and iftar, day by day

Fasting begins at the Fajr call to prayer and ends at the Maghrib call. The times below are calculated for each day with the same method as this site's prayer times page. The Ministry of Habous publishes the official timetable shortly before Ramadan: it can differ by a minute or two, and it is the one that counts.

In Casablanca the fast lasts about 12 h 21 min on the first day and 13 h 16 min on the last.

Frequently asked questions

When is Ramadan 2027 in Morocco?

By our calculation, Ramadan 1448 should begin on Monday, February 8, 2027 in Morocco. The Ministry of Habous will announce the date after the crescent is looked for, on the evening of Saturday, February 6 or Sunday, February 7, 2027.

When is the crescent looked for?

On the evening of Saturday, February 6 or Sunday, February 7, 2027, which will be 29 Sha'ban (depending on the day Sha'ban begins). The Ministry of Habous issues its statement that evening.

Will the clocks change during Ramadan 2027?

No, unless a new decision is taken. Since September 20, 2026 Morocco has been on GMT all year, so the temporary return to GMT that used to come with each Ramadan no longer applies.

What time is iftar on the first day?
