Update, October 19: CAS announced on Monday that its award is expected "at the end of November 2026", with no exact date. According to its statement, the panel has begun its deliberations and chose to issue a fully reasoned decision rather than announce the operative part first, a process that "will take several weeks". The FRMF confirmed that a decision is expected in November. CAS stressed that only its official communications are authoritative, after a fake document announcing a Senegal win circulated on social media. This article will be updated on the day of the award.

AFCON 2025 final: CAS held its hearing on October 8, no date yet for the ruling

⚖️🇲🇦🇸🇳 AFCON 2025 final: the Court of Arbitration for Sport heard Morocco, Senegal and CAF on October 8 in Lausanne. On October 19, CAS said its award is expected at the end of November 2026. #AFCON2025 #CAS #Morocco #Maroc #المغرب

Five days after the hearing, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has not yet issued its ruling on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, and no date has been announced as of Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The hearing took place on Thursday, October 8 in Lausanne, behind closed doors, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:48 p.m., before three arbitrators: Gérald Simon of France, Ulrich Haas of Germany and Luigi Fumagalli of Italy. The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) were represented by their lawyers.

CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb said the same day that the decision would come neither that Thursday nor the day after. The court's aim, he said, is to deliver a reasoned decision as soon as possible after the hearing, and he spoke of a time frame of a few days to a few weeks. Dates are circulating in the press; none has been confirmed by the court, which had recalled in July, after inaccurate claims circulated, that only information published through its official channels is reliable.

The dispute concerns the result of the final played on January 18, 2026 in Rabat. On the pitch, Senegal won 1-0 after extra time, in a match that was interrupted after a penalty was awarded to Morocco. On March 17, CAF's appeal board, to which the FRMF had appealed, declared Senegal to have forfeited the match and awarded Morocco a 3-0 win, relying on articles 82 and 84 of the competition regulations, which deal with a team that refuses to play or leaves the pitch before the end. The FSF took the case to CAS, which registered its appeal on March 25: it asks for that decision to be annulled and to be declared the winner. As the parties did not agree on an expedited procedure, the ordinary timetable applied. The ruling can still be challenged before the Swiss Federal Tribunal, which does not re-examine the merits. This article will be updated as soon as CAS announces its decision.
