Morocco returns to GMT on Sunday, September 20: what changes

🕐🇲🇦 Since Sunday, September 20, Morocco is back on GMT: clocks went back one hour at 2 a.m. Schools start at 8 a.m., and the gap with France is two hours until October 25. #Morocco #GMT #ClockChange

Morocco officially returned to GMT on Sunday, September 20, 2026: at 2 a.m., clocks were set back by 60 minutes. Provided for by decree No. 2.26.530 of June 25, 2026, the move ends the GMT+1 regime introduced in 2018, which was suspended every year during the month of Ramadan. Unless a new regulatory decision is made, the time will now stay the same all year round, with no seasonal switch.

The first concrete effect for families: schools have been starting classes at 8 a.m. since September 20, with the ministry asking establishments to adapt their timetables and take local specifics into account, particularly in rural areas. For travelers and businesses, the time gap with France and Spain is two hours until October 25, then one hour once those countries move back to winter time.

Prayer times themselves do not change in the sky, but they show up one hour earlier on the clock compared with this summer: in Casablanca, the Dhuhr prayer now falls around 12:30 p.m. instead of 1:30 p.m. A small habit to adjust for alarms, appointments and transport schedules.
