Three Sectors Where Morocco Leads Africa (and Sometimes the World)

🏆🇲🇦 Morocco stands out as an economic leader across several strategic sectors: Africa's #1 car exporter (52% of the continent's exports), Tanger Med port #1 in Africa and the Mediterranean (6th worldwide), and OCP the world's #1 phosphate exporter. #Morocco #Economy #Pride

Beyond sport and culture, Morocco has established itself as an economic leader in several strategic sectors, both across Africa and, in some cases, globally. In the automotive sector, the Kingdom overtook South Africa in 2025 to become the continent's top car exporter, shipping 454,443 vehicles — 52.3% of all African automotive exports — while Moroccan plants (Renault in Tangier, Stellantis in Kénitra) also made it Africa's leading producer of passenger cars.

On the logistics front, the Tanger Med port confirms its regional dominance: according to the World Bank's Container Port Performance Index, it ranks 6th worldwide, making it the top-performing port in Africa and the Mediterranean, and the only African port ranked among the world's top 30 for container traffic.

Finally, in strategic raw materials, the OCP Group remains the world's leading phosphate exporter, holding nearly 70% of the world's phosphate rock reserves and around 31% of the international phosphate products market — a historic pillar of Morocco's economy and a key contributor to global food security through fertilizer production.
