Morocco celebrated Eid Al-Adha on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, corresponding to the 10th of Dhu Al-Hijja. This official religious holiday commemorates Ibrahim's (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.

The date is announced by Morocco's Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs after the crescent moon is sighted: in 2026 the Dhu Al-Hijja 1447 crescent was seen on the evening of Sunday, May 17, and the month began on Monday, May 18. Families gather for communal prayers, the ritual sacrifice, and festive shared meals — one of the most cherished moments in Moroccan family life.

Government offices, schools, and most businesses are closed. Plan your travel accordingly.

On the market side, national supply relies entirely on local production — a herd estimated at 32.8 million head, including 23.1 million sheep — with no recourse to imports. Prices vary by breed: 70 to 80 MAD/kg for a Sardi sheep, 70 to 75 MAD/kg for a Bergui from Timahdite, with an average sheep typically selling between 2,000 and 3,100 dirhams. Authorities advise buying early, as prices tend to climb as the holiday approaches.
