Cameroon claimed their first-ever Women's AFCON title on Sunday, August 16, 2026 in Rabat, routing Malawi 3-0 in the final. Cameroon made the difference in the first half alone, with a brace from Marie Ngah Manga and a goal from Paris Saint-Germain forward Naomi Eto.

The win ends a run of three lost finals for Cameroon (2004, 2014, 2016), while Malawi finishes as runner-up for the first time in its history after a surprise run through the tournament.

For host nation Morocco, which staged Women's AFCON 2026 from July 26 to August 16, the tournament will be remembered as an organizational success: the Atlas Lionesses reached the semifinal and secured qualification for the 2027 Women's World Cup.

On the continental stage, this tournament confirmed the progress of Moroccan women's football: in the FIFA ranking published after the tournament, the Atlas Lionesses held onto 3rd place in Africa, behind South Africa and Nigeria — a position the Royal Moroccan Football Federation intends to build on ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
